Went out chasing rooftops with some buddies last weekend. After living in downtown a few years, this was my first time out doing it; definitely not my last.
Took the subway out to East Hollywood this past Saturday to peep the reopening of the Hollyhock House. The Hollyhock House is Frank Lloyd Wright’s first Los Angeles project. Built between 1919 and 1921, it represents his earliest efforts to develop a regionally appropriate style of architecture for Southern California. Wright himself referred to it as California Romanza, using a musical term meaning “freedom to make one’s own form” (source). In terms of architecture/design the house wasn't my cup of tea.. But still beautiful and inspiring in its own way.
Headed out to the IE last night to meet up with the family in (late) celebration of Carissa & Mike's birthday. Our family has a really close relationship, which I love; so when our schedules permit and we're all able to be with each other at the same time, good times are definitely had.
This past Saturday (01/31/15) I headed east of Downtown to check out the @FlaskMob LA Meet Up. They teamed with @WeOwnTheNight_LA & @Conquer_LA to bring out photographers of all skill levels out to LA to walk around downtown and just have a good time. Unfortunately, after about 10 minutes of leaving the meetup spot, LAPD had blocked us off from crossing the 6th street bridge into downtown, and pushed us back into the warehouse district. Even with that mishap, everyone still stayed positive and made the best of the situation.
In attempts to better my eye for photo/video composition, I'm starting a #365 project for this year. I've done this before in past years, but never got through the year. One of my goals for this year in my personal development is consistency in my work; so this will be a fun exercise to aid that. Enjoy.
Visited the family out in Upland for Thanksgiving and took a little hike up through Mt. Baldy. It was nice to be out of the city for a bit, and enjoy the beauty nature has to offer.
Had our good friends Cassandra and Vanessa of Flaunt It Fashion out in the city with us styling and modeling for a Fuell shoot over the weekend; so they had us shoot a couple quick looks. We've worked together a couple times, and they always do an amazing job. Check them out on Instagram @flauntitfashion
For the past few months, I've been working late nights x long days with close homies and colleagues on a new 'autowear' brand called FUELL. It's been nice to work on a project outside of work again, and I've been learning a lot of new skills x information. Excited to see what may come of this; for now I'm just enjoying the journey. Our products will become available on Friday October 24 @ 12am.
